The Opal Dress took us almost a year to create. We wanted to make a little dress that felt romantic, elegant, and softly French. At first, we chosen real silk. We spent months testing lace, adjusting the fit, and refining every little detail. But just before the dress was ready, we learned something we hadn’t known before: except for peace silk, most conventional silk is made by placing cocoons, with the silkworms still inside, into boiling water so the fibers remain unbroken. We sat with that for a long time. Then, we decided to change the fabric — because to us, the beauty of a dress should never come at the cost of another life. So we started over. We tested nearly ten different fabrics before finally finding this plant-based acetate. It has the soft sheen and fluid feel we loved about silk, while staying true to something we care deeply about: kindness. We named her The Opal Dress, after the gemstone that changes with the light. On cloudy days, it looks like a soft, muted green — calm and gentle. In the sunlight, it turns into a fresh mint green, clear and almost glowing. Two shades, one dress — a little like the same pup showing two different sides of her personality. When we first started designing, we kept imagining the same scene: a little dog running across the lawn of a French country house, wearing a dress that catches the light as she moves. Later, after a full day of playing, she curls up in her bed and falls asleep, still completely comfortable in the same dress. A dress pretty enough to wear out, and comfortable enough to wear at home. Because we don’t think you should have to choose between beauty and comfort. We want both.
